When Andy Summers gave Sting a copy of the Paul Bowes novel, The Sheltering Sky, I suspect it was because he thought he'd enjoy it. I doubt he thought he'd use it to write on of The Police's great album tracks. Not released as a single, but beloved of the fans, the band did at least include it on their Greatest Hits collection.
