Crossroads should have been dreadful. I mean, it should have been REALLY bad. The Karate Kid swaps a gnarly old Mr Miyagi for gnarly old Willie Brown. Crane kicks for blues licks. For the Cobra Kai and Johnny read Old Scratch and Steve Vai. But some how (almost like the film had sold it's soul to the devil in return?) Crossroads turned out to be a cracker. It hasn't had the same exposure as Karate Kid, it's not endlessly on old movie channels and didn't even get a DVD for many years and still is yet to get the Blu Ray treatment. Yet, mention it to those that have seen it and bang... everyone loves it. From Ry Cooder's passion, Steve Vai's shredding, the Robert Johnson legend or that it's just great fun.
