In the main, author HG Wells liked James Whale's treatment of The Invisible Man, but for one key point. Wells felt that Whale had turned a brilliant scientist that was simply amoral into a lunatic. Whale saw it differently arguing that anyone taking a volatile (albeit fictitious) drug like Monocane to become invisible must have been insane, to begin with. Maybe as Wells was a scientist at heart, he wouldn't see it? Maybe Whale was just trying to make his version fit? Who knows, either way, who wouldn't want to be invisible even for only a few minutes?
