When Let It Bleed came out, the Rolling Stones were in the midst of arguably the hottest streak by any band, ever - Beggars Banquet, Let It Bleed, Sticky Fingers and Exile On Main Street. They were so hot that they didn't even feel the need to include Jumping Jack Flash or Honky Tonk Women on albums (although a version fo Honkey Tonk Woman, Country Honk did feature on Let It Bleed). So when you think of favourite songs over that period it is too easy to overlook so many great songs - one of which is Monkey Man - the gloriously sleazy gutter trash tribute to Italian pop artist, Mario Schifano. Drifting seamlessly between junkie anthem, country blues jam and back again. In the hands of pretty much anyone else, it would have been the greatest thing they'd ever written. To the Stones though, it is all too often chalked up as just another day at the office... guess that must have been the day of the office party.
