Like a lot of people of my generation I was lucky enough to have a dad into the first wave of rock n' roll. For him it was Little Richard at the top of the pile, but there was still plenty of room for the likes of Eddie Cochran, Carl Perkins, Elvis and Gene Vincent, so when Stray Cats showed up on Top of the Pops alongside whatever else was on that week, the sound and that look already felt right, but this time it had something else to go with it. A danger that seemed more punk than 50s revival, but either way Brian Setzer, Slim Jim Phantom and Lee Rocker had a great look and even better sound.
