Ever since I first saw Green Day tearing up Brixton Academy (with the criminally under-rated and truly brilliant D-Generation in support)I've been bemused by the music world's perception of Green Day. They've done pretty much the same thing since day one and seemingly through no greater sin than selling some albums and so many people wanting to see them that they have sold out stadiums, hey have been branded as "plastic punks". Is there such a huge difference between them and dozens of other bands that are accepted despite selling far more albums and tickets and making many more contrived ballads? Seems a tad unfair and certainly a cheap shot at great band.
